Cylinder Heads Manufacture, Cylinder Heads Reconditioning:
Manufacturing and reconditioning of cylinder heads: the Mauss GmbH also provides these services made in Germany.
We manufacture cylinder heads in Cologne according to customer specification. Also, the Anton Mauss GmbH specialises in the repair of cylinder heads.
We manufacture cylinder heads ranging 1000 mm x 1000 mm x 1000 mm.
What is a Cylinder Head?
The cylinder head seals the combustion chamber of an internal-combustion engine, and therefore it is located at the end of the cylinder, above the top dead center of the piston. With four-stroke engines, it holds the valve control for the gas exchange procedures, in gasoline engines even the spark plugs, too. Therefore, the cylinder head is one of the most complex parts of a motor besides the engine block.
Cylinder heads are sujected to shock loads since the combustion process in a cylinder presses the same force on it as on the piston. Hence, the cylinder head is usually not connected to the cylinder, but to the crankcase.
In modern engines, every moving part is included into the oil circulation system. Thereby oil is led up to the cylinder head, which has a rubber sealed cylinder head cover or cork gasket to avoid leakage of splashing oil.
Honing of Cylinder Heads
In case they show grooves, cylinders can be bored in their inner diameter and polished at our honing processor. That allows for a re-use of the cylinder.
|Diameter||5 mm up to 500 mm|
|Length||up to a length of 2000 mm|
We may arrange for an overhauling of your cylinder on-site.
What Kind of Cylinder Heads Do Exist?
Cylinder heads and their combustion engines classify in:
- Gasoline engines with spark plugs
- Diesel engines without spark plugs, but with injector nozzles instead
- Naturally aspirated engines with carburetor
- Injection engines without carburator
- Center camshaft
- Overhead camshaft
- Simple camshaft
- Double camshaft
- Cross-flow cylinder head
- Reverse-flow cylinder head with its changing direction of gases
Component Parts of Cylinder Heads
There are different components featuring cylinder heads. Depending on in what kind of engine there is, one distinguishes between:
- Intake valves
- Exhaust valves
- Spark plugs
- Injector nozzles (Diesel engines)
- Fuel injection valves
- Intake and exhaust ports
